[Pork] Quote of the Day: Bode: “Because Wind Projects Can Be Built Quickly, Positive Legislation From Congress Will Have Immediate & Visible Effects”

From Energy Current:

Bode served on the Oklahoma Corporation Commission from 1997 to 2007, resigning to become CEO of the American Clean Skies Foundation. Bode resigned as CEO of the American Clean Skies Foundation in November to succeed Randall S. Swisher, who retired after serving 19 years with the AWEA.

During the early days of Bode’s leadership, the wind industry has been seeking a portion of the proposed $825 billion economic recovery package being considered by Congress. The proposal includes tax breaks for renewable energy investment and production. Read more…

WSJ: Is Aubrey McClendon Selling Off His Prized Wine?

Oh my God, it IS that bad over at Chesapeake! Wonder if Mr. McClendon’s [hopefully legal] domestic help is next?

From the Wall Street Journal:

Even though the market for collectible wines is slumping, Sotheby’s recently announced it will sell off 9,000 bottles in two auctions in March and April. The sale is titled “Classic Cellar from a Great American Collector.”

It is large by any standard. But what really caught my eye was the statement in Sotheby’s news release that the sale is a “single owner collection,” meaning that it is all coming from one seller’s cellar.

Who is this “Great American Collector?” And why would he or she try to unload 9,000 bottles at a time when wine prices are collapsing?

Sotheby’s won’t say. Jamie Ritchie, head of Sotheby’s North American wine department, was uncharacteristically silent when I asked about the seller. “Sorry, I just can’t comment,” he said.

According to three people familiar with the auction, the seller is Aubrey McClendon, chief executive of Chesapeake Energy. These people say at least one other broker kicked the tires on Mr. McClendon’s collection before it went to Sotheby’s.

Mr. McClendon is one of the top wine collectors in the country, known for his love of Burgundy and Bordeaux. He also is known for his cash crunch. Last fall, he was forced to sell 94% of his stake in Chesapeake to pay back margin loans. Mr. McClendon’s stake once was valued at more than $2 billion. So it wouldn’t be surprising if he were to want to liquidate some of his, er, liquid assets.

Mr. McClendon, through a spokesman, didn’t respond to a request for comment.

Sotheby’s says it expects the sale to fetch at least $5 million–not much for a former billionaire, but these days every little million helps. Read more…

Istook: “Obama-Pelosi Bill Makes For Stimulating Reality TV”

By Ernest Istook

The American people are waking up. The behemoth Obama-Pelosi “stimulus” bill rampaging through Congress is just another bailout: this time to rescue big government from its own misbehavior.

From an entertainment standpoint, the biggest problem is finding a proper name. The bill deserves Hollywood treatment because it included such special goodies for Hollywood (at least until Sen. Tom Coburn (R- OK) played Grinch and got them removed). But it’s a cacophony of ideas that only “Mad Men” could love.

It could be named “CSI” — “Congressional Stimulus Inefficiency.”

Either that or “Ugly Betty.”

It’s time to drop the “stimulus” and “economic recovery” terms and call the legislation by its proper description: The Mother of All Government Bailouts. Read more…

Reporters Should Just Stick to Reporting the News!

From Examiner.com:

The laugher of the day comes courtesy of the increasingly irrelevant daily newspaper in Oklahoma City and one of their low-ranking reporters.

For the 40 or 50 folks who may have actually read the story, they were treated today to the thinly veiled musings of an obscure reporter named Bryan (Unseen) Dean. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand that the little-known Unseen Dean is a big government liberal whose business operations IQ looks to be in the single digits. Dean and the rest of the paper were in the bag for new Commissioner Maughan’s opponents last November, and now the paper wants to get the attention of Maughan, the conservative Republican who soundly whipped the paper’s bureaucratic buddies down at the county courthouse. Et Tu Bode?

“The hope is that provisions such as those included in the House stimulus bill to restore the effectiveness of the tax incentives for renewable energy will quickly become law and provide the capital needed to continue to build projects.” -AWEA’s CEO, Denise Bode

We all remember from our high school English classes the Latin phrase Julius Caesar uttered in Shakespeare’s play of the same name when he realized he was being betrayed by his loyal friend Brutus: “Et tu Brute?” (“Even you, Brutus?”)

Well that’s how we felt this morning when we received this tip in our inbox. Ms. Bode was a speaker yesterday in Washington at the “Green Jobs National Conference” which was sponsored by a Democratic Party front group called the Blue Green Alliance. Check out the roster of invited speakers:

Leo W. Gerard, international president, United Steelworkers.

Achim Steiner, United Nations Environment Program executive director, United Nations Under-Secretary General.

Larry Cohen, president, Communications Workers of America.

Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn. (Our first Muslim Congressman)

Denise Bode, CEO, American Wind Energy Association.

Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce

Peter Lehner, executive director, Natural Resources Defense Council.

My Two Cents for Chairman Steele Pt. 2

From Examiner.com:

By Christopher Arps

Mr. Steele definitely has his work cut out for him. I am a political operative first and an activist second. My company gets paid to help win elections and sway public opinion. Mr. Barbours’ comments are from a political operative’s point of view. I care DEEPLY about the social issues such as abortion and the continuing coarseness of our culture, but to our moderate friends, the Party has been taken over by these narrow issues. As I said in my post, I’m very conservative, but I’m a realist….

I know the arguments that will be presented: “millions of evangelicals stayed home during the last election.” Or, “when we adhere to our conservatism we win.” And this is the case, but as my late friend Sherman Parker always told me, “play chess not checkers.” The changing demographics of this country will make these points moot. Republicans will not be able to win future elections depending on white, male evangelicals. That’s just a fact. Read more…

Video: Global Warming: How Hot Air and Bad Science Will Give You Staggeringly Higher Taxes and Prices

Former investigative reporter and current advisor for Senator Jim Inhofe, Marc Morano reveals the agenda behind the hype. He discusses the complicated “cap and trade” scheme that Obama supports, which is really a stealth ‘carbon tax’ which will cost Americans trillions have no effect on the climate. Even the Washington Post called Cap and Trade a “fundamental restructuring of our economy” yet do nothing for the climate.
